"49ers Cornerback Charvarius Ward Discloses Tragic Loss of Infant Daughter"
San Francisco 49ers defensive back Charvarius Ward announced on Tuesday that his daughter, who was only one year old, has passed away. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
Ward's daughter, Amani Joi Ward, was born prematurely and had Down syndrome. She underwent open-heart surgery on April 11 of last year.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Ward wrote, "We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful baby girl, Amani Joy, on Monday morning. She was a blessing to us and her joyful spirit always brought smiles to our faces. She taught us patience, trust, and how to have a positive outlook on life."
He continued, "Despite facing challenges at such a young age, she showed us incredible strength and bravery. Her happiness lit up every room she entered."
The San Francisco 49ers (4-4) are currently on their bye week.
Ward, who is 28 years old, has been in the NFL for seven seasons and is currently in his third season with the 49ers. He previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs for four seasons and was not drafted after playing college football at Middle Tennessee State.
This season, Ward has started in seven games and has recorded 35 tackles and five passes defended. He was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time last season after recording five interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and 23 passes defended.
