"2025 Draft Requirements, Selections, Ideal Matches, and Past Records of Bears"

For the first time in three years, the Bears enter the draft somewhere other than the top.

And somehow, starting over in Chicago has never been quite this exciting.

Anticipation for a pairing of 2024 No. 1 pick Caleb Williams with new head coach Ben Johnson has the Bears expecting a jump out of the NFC North cellar. However, the Bears have been in this situation before.

Chicago was a popular pick for the playoffs in 2024, but rookie quarterback Williams faced constant pressure behind a weak offensive line. Despite this, he had a solid debut season, even with multiple offensive coordinators and head coaches in just five months.

General manager Ryan Poles made a record-breaking move by hiring Johnson from the Detroit Lions and continued to make big moves in free agency, revamping the offensive line and signing former Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a hefty deal.

Last month, Poles stated that these moves allow the front office to select the "best player available" with the 10th overall pick.

Team needs:

Left tackle:

Braxton Jones is an average starter, but Caleb Williams is not an average quarterback. The Bears have signed center Drew Dalman and acquired veteran guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson to strengthen the offensive line.

Pass rusher:

This is arguably the deepest position in the 2025 draft. Poles is always willing to make a deal for a top player, and he may go to great lengths to secure Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter. If not, there are plenty of speedy options available at the 10th pick and possibly into the second round. For the past three seasons, the Bears' leader in sacks has had less than 6.5.

Running back:

The Bears are already familiar with elusive starter D'Andre Swift, but they may look to add a more consistent power back to backup Roschon Johnson.

Safety:

Johnson publicly revealed how he coached the Lions to exploit current Bears starting safety Jaquan Brisker, who was a second-round pick in 2022. Was this a warning or a teachable moment? Brisker is entering the final year of his contract.

Best prospect fits:

OT Armand Membou, Missouri

RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State

Edge Jalon Walker, Georgia

DE James Pearce Jr., Tennessee
