UNLV Quarterback Matthew Sluka Departs, Citing Unfulfilled Obligations
UNLV's starting quarterback, Matthew Sluka, announced late Tuesday night on social media that he will not be playing in any further games this season.
As a senior, Sluka has decided to use his redshirt year instead. He spent the first four years of his college career at Holy Cross.
\"I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled,\" Sluka posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. \"Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program.\"
In the three games he played this season, Sluka completed 21 of 48 passes for 318 yards and six touchdowns with one interception. He also had 39 carries for 253 yards and a score as a dual threat for the Rebels (3-0), who will be hosting Fresno State (3-1, 1-0) in their Mountain West Conference opener on Saturday.
Either Hajj-Malik Williams or Cameron Friel will be starting at quarterback for UNLV in that game.
