Former highly-rated wide receiver Johntay Cook has parted ways with the University of Texas, according to reports from various sources on Thursday.

The 6-foot sophomore, hailing from DeSoto, Texas, has decided to enter the transfer portal after playing 20 games for the Longhorns.

Cook was ranked as the third best wide receiver and 29th best player in the country by the 247Sports composite in the Class of 2023.

His last appearance for the team was in their victory against rival Oklahoma on October 12. In the six games he played this season, Cook managed to catch eight passes for 137 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Longhorns (7-1, 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference).

During his freshman year in 2023, Cook participated in 14 games but only caught eight passes for 136 yards.

At DeSoto High School, Cook had an impressive record of 2,965 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns in his final three seasons, which led to a state championship win in his senior year.
