'Preseason All-America Team Features Four Players from Ohio State'
The Associated Press college football preseason All-America team was announced on Monday, with four players from No. 2 Ohio State making the cut. Among them is safety Caleb Downs, who transferred from Alabama.
Defending champion Michigan and top-ranked Georgia also had strong showings, with three players each making the team. This includes quarterback Carson Beck for Georgia.
Downs previously earned second-team All-America honors while playing for Alabama in 2023. He is joined on the first team by fellow Buckeyes Donovan Jackson, Emeka Egbuka, and Denzel Burke.
In 2023, Downs led Alabama with 107 tackles and also had two interceptions and a punt return for a touchdown. He transferred to Ohio State after Nick Saban's retirement and the hiring of Kalen DeBoer.
Michigan's representatives on the team are tight end Colston Loveland, defensive tackle Mason Graham, and cornerback Will Johnson.
Along with Beck, Georgia also has guard Tate Ratledge and defensive back Malaki Starks, who was a first-team All-America selection last year.
