Mack Brown Voices Interest in Rejoining UNC in 2025
Mack Brown plans to come back to North Carolina next year for his 36th season as a head coach in the FBS.
During his weekly press conference on Monday, the 73-year-old Brown was asked about his future. He stated, "You never discuss with your athletic director until the end of the year. Everyone always does that. My complete focus is on NC State. It's terrible to be talking about me when we just had a poor game and need to defeat State."
A reporter followed up with a direct question about his plans for 2025, to which Brown replied, "Yes."
The Tar Heels experienced a four-game losing streak earlier in the season and are now coming off a 41-21 defeat against Boston College. After a 70-50 loss to James Madison in September, Brown mentioned that he would step down if he felt he could no longer effectively coach the team to success.
Brown led the Texas team that won the national championship in 2005 with a perfect 13-0 record and a memorable victory over Southern California in the Rose Bowl.
He spent 10 seasons at North Carolina before taking over at Texas, and he returned to the Tar Heels in 2019. In a combined 16 seasons at Chapel Hill, Brown's teams have recorded a 113-78-1 record, including a 6-5 record this year.
In 2018, Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, he has amassed a record of 282-149-1 as the head coach of Tulane (1985-87), North Carolina (1988-97, 2019-24), and Texas (1998-2013).
