"Announcements: Air Force, UNLV, and 4 Additional Teams to Remain in Mountain West Conference"
According to multiple reports late Wednesday, both UNLV and Air Force have chosen to stay in the Mountain West Conference.
UNLV declined offers from the rebuilding Pac-12 Conference, while Air Force turned down strong interest from the American Athletic Conference.
This decision by the Runnin' Rebels and the Falcons comes after five Mountain West members announced their departure to the Pac-12: Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State.
Yahoo Sports reported that Air Force and UNLV received "significant financial incentives" to stay in the Mountain West, although the exact amount was not disclosed.
The Mountain West currently has six full members and seven football-playing schools, including Hawaii. However, it still needs to meet the NCAA and College Football Playoff's minimum requirement of eight member schools.
According to ESPN and Yahoo Sports, all of the remaining Mountain West schools, including New Mexico, Nevada, San Jose State, and Wyoming, are expected to sign a binding agreement with the league on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Pac-12 is still one school short of meeting the minimum requirements with only seven members. On Monday, Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, and UTSA all declined offers from the Pac-12 and chose to remain in the AAC.
