"Announcement: Relocation of Florida-Georgia Matchup to Atlanta in 2026, Followed by Tampa in 2027"

The second-ranked team, Georgia, is getting ready to face off against Florida on Saturday, but much attention is being given to future games in the long-standing rivalry.

As per tradition, the game on Saturday will take place in Jacksonville, Florida. However, a renovation project worth $1.4 billion at EverBank Stadium, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, will render the venue unusable in 2026-27.

According to a report by The Action Network on Wednesday, the two teams will play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in 2026 and at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa the following year, giving each team a chance to play in their respective states.

The teams have been meeting in Jacksonville since 1933, except for a brief period from 1994-95 when games were played on the schools' home fields, as stated on Georgia's website. The first time the teams played was in 1904.

During a teleconference call on Wednesday, Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters that the location of the game was not his main focus for the week.

"I mean, I'm so immersed in this game," Smart said. "I understand why it's a topic for you guys, but my main focus is on our team. We're working hard to improve for the game against Florida. I haven't really been involved in those discussions."

There were discussions about playing the games on the teams' home fields since Jacksonville will not be available, but it seems that will not be the case.

Georgia, with a record of 6-1 (4-1 SEC), enters the game this week with their sights set on a spot in the College Football Playoff. Florida, with a record of 4-3 (2-2 SEC), has won three of their last four games after a slow start of 1-2.

Georgia currently leads the series 56-44-2, with a record of 49-41-1 in Jacksonville. The Bulldogs have won the last three and six of the last seven games.
