"UConn Secures Transfer Guard Malachi Smith from Dayton"

UConn has confirmed that Malachi Smith, a guard from Dayton, will be transferring to their team.

Smith has spent the last four years at Dayton and has averaged 9.3 points, 5.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 86 games (77 starts).

Originally from New York, Smith's 2023-24 season was cut short due to a meniscus tear in his right knee during the season opener. However, he returned the following season and achieved a career high of 10.4 points per game, along with 5.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds.

According to UConn, Smith still has one year of eligibility remaining.

In a statement, UConn coach Dan Hurley expressed his excitement about adding Smith to the team, stating that he is a dynamic playmaker, strong outside shooter, and a veteran who has won many games. Hurley believes that Smith will be a valuable addition to the team and help them reach their championship goals.

Smith is the second transfer to commit to UConn this offseason, following former Georgia guard Silas Demary Jr.
