Texas' SEC Freshman of the Year, Tre Johnson, Declares for NBA Draft
Tre Johnson shattered one of Kevin Durant's records during his time at Texas. Now, Johnson will join Durant as players who only spent one year with the Longhorns before heading to the NBA.
Johnson, who was named the Southeastern Conference's top freshman, announced on Tuesday that he will be entering the draft.
The 6-foot-6 shooting guard led the SEC in scoring (19.9 points per game) - a feat that has only been achieved by six other freshmen in the conference's history. He also averaged 34.7 minutes, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. Johnson's 39.7 percent 3-point shooting percentage was the second best in the conference.
In a game against Arkansas on February 26th, Johnson scored an impressive 39 points, breaking Durant's record for the most points scored by a freshman in a single game.
Johnson played a key role in helping Texas achieve a 19-16 record, but the team ultimately lost to Xavier in the First Four round of the NCAA Tournament.
