Tennessee and Marquette Secure Top-10 Spots with Impressive Victories; Kansas Remains at No. 1
The leading five positions in the Associated Press Top 25 university basketball poll remained unaltered on Monday, while Tennessee and Marquette made significant leaps into the top 10.
Kansas (5-0) maintained its position at No. 1, followed by two-time defending champion UConn (4-0), Gonzaga (5-0), Auburn (4-0) and Iowa State (3-0). Tennessee (6-0) climbed four spots to No. 7, and Marquette (6-0) rose five spots to No. 10.
No. 6 Houston (3-1), No. 8 Kentucky (5-0) and No. 9 Alabama (4-1) also secured spots in the top 10.
Kansas only played one game last week, securing an 84-66 victory at home against UNC Wilmington. The Jayhawks will face a tough challenge with a matchup against No. 11 Duke (4-1) on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
Tennessee earned two impressive wins in the Bahamas last week, defeating Virginia 64-42 and then-No. 13 Baylor 77-62 to win the Baha Mar Championship. Marquette also had a notable victory, defeating then-No. 6 Purdue 76-58 on Tuesday in Milwaukee and securing an 80-69 win over Georgia on Saturday in Nassau, Bahamas.
Dropping out of the top 10 were North Carolina (3-1), which fell two spots to No. 12, and Purdue (5-1), which dropped seven places to No. 13. Indiana (4-0) moved up two spots to No. 14 and Wisconsin (7-0) rose four spots to No. 15.
