Senior Season Welcomes Back Purdue All-American G Braden Smith
Braden Smith, a point guard who was named to the Consensus first-team All-American, announced on Monday that he will be returning to Purdue for the 2025-26 season.
Smith, who was a finalist for both the Wooden and Naismith Player of the Year awards, shared his decision on Instagram.
\"I have decided to run it back one last time,\" Smith stated. He also expressed his gratitude towards Purdue, stating that the university has given him everything including memories, challenges, growth, and a family. He also mentioned that there is still more to prove, accomplish, and create with his teammates.
Smith ended his announcement by sending love to his teammates and the Boiler Nation, and expressed his excitement for the upcoming season.
During his junior year, Smith was named Big Ten Player of the Year and also received the Bob Cousy Award for being the nation's top point guard.
In 36 games, Smith averaged 15.8 points, 8.7 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 steals. He also made 83 3-pointers, helping Purdue (24-12) reach the Sweet 16 before falling to Houston. In the game against the Cougars, Smith recorded 15 assists.
With 758 career assists, Smith holds the record for most assists in Purdue's history.
