Season-Ending Injury Strikes Again: Providence's F Bryce Hopkins Sidelined with Knee Issue
Providence's head coach, Kim English, announced on Monday that Bryce Hopkins will be out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. This is the second consecutive season that the talented forward's season has been cut short.
Hopkins suffered an ACL tear in his left knee on January 3, 2024, causing him to miss the end of the 2023-24 season and the beginning of this season.
He made his return on December 3 against BYU, scoring 16, 16, and 19 points in three games before sustaining a bone bruise in the same knee.
During his local television show on Monday, English shared the news of Hopkins' status.
"Bryce will not be playing for the remainder of this season," English stated. "I understand the frustration, especially after losing his junior season last year after only playing in 13 games."
"We didn't want to risk Bryce managing his knee and only playing half a season," he added. "He will receive a medical redshirt and our focus will now shift to getting him fully recovered for next season."
Hopkins transferred to Providence in 2022 after a limited role in his freshman year at Kentucky. In 50 games, all of which he started, with the Friars, Hopkins has averaged 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
