"Maui Upset: UConn's No. 2 Ranking Takes Second Consecutive Hit in Top 25 Roundup"
Andrej Jakimovski made a layup with just eight seconds remaining to lead Colorado to a 73-72 upset over No. 2 UConn in the Maui Invitational on Tuesday in Lahaina, Hawaii.
The Buffaloes overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half to defeat the two-time defending national champions. Jakimovski's winning shot came as he drove down the right side of the lane and made a scoop shot while falling down. UConn called a timeout to set up a final play, but Hassan Diarra missed a 3-point attempt with two seconds left.
Jakimovski had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Julian Hammond III and Elijah Malone each scored 16 points for Colorado. They will now advance to the fifth-place game on Wednesday.
UConn's Liam McNeeley led the team with 20 points, followed by Solo Ball with 16 and Diarra with 11. This loss marks the first time the Huskies have lost two consecutive games since 2023. They will play for seventh place against Dayton on Wednesday.
