Florida Claims Top Spot in Poll Following Victory over Houston
Florida claimed the top spot in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Tuesday, following their victory over Houston in the NCAA Tournament.
The Gators (36-4) received all 61 votes after their 65-63 win on Monday night in San Antonio, securing their third national title and first since consecutive championships in 2006-07.
This is the first time Florida has been ranked No. 1 since the final four weeks of the 2013-14 season.
Houston (35-5) finished the season at No. 2 after losing a 12-point lead in the second half against the Gators. Duke (35-4), Auburn (32-6), and Tennessee (30-8) rounded out the top five as the other Final Four participants.
Alabama (28-9) took the No. 6 spot, followed by Michigan State (30-7), Texas Tech (28-9), Maryland (27-9), and Michigan (27-10).
Eight teams from the Southeastern Conference made it into the Top 25, with five from the Big Ten and Big 12, and three from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
