Ex-Duke recruit Shelton Henderson to join Miami's team
Highly sought-after prospect Shelton Henderson, following his decision to withdraw his commitment from Duke last week, revealed on Monday that he will be joining former Blue Devils associate head coach Jai Lucas at the University of Miami.
Lucas, who was recently hired as the head coach for the Hurricanes, had previously worked with Duke's head coach Jon Scheyer to recruit Henderson to their team in Durham, North Carolina. However, the senior from Bellaire High School in Texas had signed with Duke in November but was granted his release last Thursday, allowing him to explore other options.
Henderson is currently ranked as the 21st best player in the Class of 2025, fourth in his position as a small forward, and the second best player in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports composite.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 220 pounds, Henderson was a key member of the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup last summer. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a reserve in six games.
Interestingly, Lucas also attended Bellaire High School and Henderson had previously played for an AAU program run by Lucas' father, John, who is a former NBA player and head coach.
In addition to Henderson, Lucas has also secured commitments from former Villanova recruit Dante Allen and Timotej Malovec from Slovakia. He has also brought in transfers Tre Donaldson from Michigan, Malik Reneau from Indiana, Ernest Udeh from TCU, and Tru Washington from New Mexico.
