"Creighton Reportedly Appoints Alan Huss as Future Head Coach"
ESPN reported Thursday that Alan Huss, the head coach of High Point, will be leaving to return to Creighton as their head-coach-in-waiting.
Huss, who is 46 years old, previously served as an assistant to Greg McDermott at Creighton for six seasons (2017-23) before taking on the role of head coach at High Point.
McDermott, who is currently 60 years old, has been the head coach at Creighton since 2010, but there is no set timeline for his retirement.
Under Huss' leadership, High Point has achieved a 56-15 record in just two seasons, winning consecutive Big South regular-season titles and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament this past March. However, they were ultimately defeated by Purdue in the first round with a score of 75-63.
Huss himself played basketball at Creighton from 1997-2001 before returning as an assistant coach under McDermott in 2017. Prior to that, he had coaching experience at the high school level and also served as an assistant at New Mexico from 2014-17.
In the 2024-25 season, Creighton finished with a record of 25-11 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they were eliminated by top-seeded Auburn. Under McDermott's leadership, the Bluejays have a record of 350-171 and have made 10 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
