According to ESPN, the Pelicans are solidifying their relationship with the Pistons by hiring former Detroit general manager Troy Weaver for the same role in New Orleans.

Last week, the Pelicans welcomed Hall of Famer and Pistons legend Joe Dumars as their executive vice president of basketball operations.

Weaver, who is 57 years old, held the GM position for the Pistons from 2020-24 and then served as a senior advisor for the Washington Wizards in the 2024-25 season.

During Weaver's tenure in Detroit, the Pistons were able to accumulate an impressive $61 million in salary cap space and build a roster filled with young, talented players. Despite a record of 72-244, Weaver's efforts paid off this season as the Pistons ended a six-year playoff drought, thanks in part to some notable draft picks from his time as GM.

Prior to his time with the Pistons, Weaver was the player personnel director for the Utah Jazz in 2007-08 and worked in the front office of the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2008-20, eventually becoming the VP of basketball operations.

Following a disappointing 21-61 season, the Pelicans parted ways with their general manager David Griffin on April 14.
