Announcement: Pelicans Guard Dejounte Murray Set to Come Back on Wednesday
New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray is poised to make his comeback from a fractured hand on Wednesday evening against the Toronto Raptors, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes' report on Monday.
Murray sustained the injury to his left hand on the opening night and underwent surgery in late October, with an expected recovery time of four to six weeks.
The incident occurred during the Pelicans' season opener against the Chicago Bulls on October 23, where they emerged victorious with a score of 123-111. Murray was injured with only 2:21 left in the fourth quarter, while his team was leading by 12 points.
The 28-year-old attempted a 3-pointer, was fouled by Zach LaVine, and fell to the ground. He was visibly in pain as he was helped up, but managed to make two out of three free throws before exiting the game.
Murray recorded a career-high of 22.5 points, along with 5.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 78 starts for the Atlanta Hawks last season. Throughout his 473 games (402 starts) in the league, he has maintained averages of 15.4 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.8 rebounds while playing for the San Antonio Spurs, Hawks, and Pelicans.
In July, the Pelicans acquired Murray from the Hawks in a trade that involved Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller, and two first-round draft picks.
He was selected for the All-Star team in the 2021-22 season with the Spurs, who drafted him as the 29th overall pick in 2016 from the University of Washington.
