"Yankees Defeat Phillies with Assistance from Jazz Chisholm Jr.: MLB Recap"

Gleyber Torres smacked a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. crushed two more home runs, and the New York Yankees triumphed over the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 on Tuesday.

Aaron Judge contributed three hits and Anthony Volpe had two hits for the Yankees, who extended their winning streak to four games. Chisholm, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins on Saturday, finished the game with five RBIs and has hit four home runs in his last two games.

Due to "general body fatigue," Gerrit Cole was unable to start for the Yankees and was replaced by reliever Michael Tonkin (4-4), who earned the win.

Austin Hays homered, singled, and drove in four runs for the Phillies, who have now lost three consecutive games. Orion Kerkering (2-2) was charged with the loss.

Sean Manaea and two relievers combined for a two-hit shutout as the New York Mets defeated the Minnesota Twins in the second game of their three-game interleague series.

Twins rookie David Festa (1-2) took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in five innings.

Rays 9, Marlins 3

Ben Rortvedt and Yandy Diaz each hit two-run singles in a five-run sixth inning to help the Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Miami Marlins 9-3 in the first game of their two-game series in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Christopher Morel hit a home run in his first game with the Rays since being traded from the Chicago Cubs. Rays starter Jeffrey Springs made his first major league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2023, allowing two runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Tyler Alexander (4-3) earned the win after giving up just one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Emmanuel Rivera and Jake Burger hit home runs for the Marlins, and Nick Fortes had three hits.

Braves 5, Brewers 1

Bryce Elder, who was called up from the minors, pitched a shutout into the seventh inning and Jarred Kelenic hit a home run and a double in his homecoming to lead the Atlanta Braves to a victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kelenic, who is from nearby Waukesha, Wisconsin, hit a double in the third inning to help the Braves take a 4-0 lead. He then hit his 12th home run of the season in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0. Elder (2-4) allowed just one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Brewers right-hander Joe Ross (2-5), who was making his first start since May 20, gave up five runs on eight hits in five innings.

Guardians 5, Tigers 0

Jose Ramirez hit his 243rd career home run for the Cleveland Guardians, moving into second place on the team's all-time home run list, as they shut out the Detroit Tigers to sweep their two-game series.

Ramirez's two-run homer in the eighth inning gave the Guardians a 4-0 lead. Hall of Famer Jim Thome holds the franchise record with 337 home runs. Josh Naylor and Brayan Rocchio also hit home runs for the Guardians, who won the season series against the Tigers 7-6.

Grant Williams (1-3) earned the win after pitching five scoreless innings and striking out eight batters. Detroit reliever Alex Faedo (5-3) took the loss after giving up a solo home run to Naylor in the fourth.

Orioles 6, Blue Jays 2

Corbin Burnes pitched 6 2/3 strong innings and the Baltimore Orioles used early offense to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays.
