'White Sox appoint Walker McKinven as assistant coach for reserves'
The team led by the recently appointed Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable is taking shape, with the addition of Walker McKinven as the team's bench coach.
At the age of 35, McKinven joins the team from the Milwaukee Brewers, where he previously worked as the club's run-prevention coordinator. The Chicago native had a game-planning role under manager Pat Murphy and had been a part of the Brewers organization for nine seasons.
Venable was officially announced as the new White Sox manager on November 8th, replacing former manager Pedro Grifol who was let go last season along with three members of the coaching staff, including bench coach Charlie Montoyo. Grady Sizemore served as interim manager for the remainder of the season.
McKinven's hiring follows the recent addition of Ryan Fuller as the White Sox's director of hitting. Fuller, 34, previously served as a co-hitting coach for the Baltimore Orioles for the past three seasons.
