Rangers' $20M option for RHP Nathan Eovaldi turned down
Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has rejected the Texas Rangers' $20 million option and will now enter free agency.
According to Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young, the team is still highly interested in negotiating a new contract with the two-time World Series champion.
Eovaldi, who is 34 years old, had a vesting option for the 2025 season in his previous contract. This option was dependent on him throwing a combined 300 innings in the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Rangers.
Over the course of those two seasons, Eovaldi pitched a total of 314 2/3 innings and recorded a 24-13 record with a 3.72 ERA in 54 starts. He also earned his second All-Star selection in 2023 (his first was in 2021 with the Boston Red Sox) and won his second World Series title in 2018 with the Red Sox.
Throughout his 13-year career, Eovaldi has a record of 91-81 with a 4.07 ERA in 294 games (275 starts) with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2011-12), Miami Marlins (2012-14), New York Yankees (2015-16), Tampa Bay Rays (2018), Red Sox (2018-22), and Rangers.
