The New York Yankees' starting pitcher, Luis Gil, was replaced in the fourth inning of Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians due to tightness in his lower back.

After throwing a changeup to Cleveland's Jose Ramirez and with Steven Kwan stealing second, Gil called for a trainer. He then had a brief meeting with manager Aaron Boone and a trainer before being replaced by Tim Hill.

Pitching with a week of rest, Gil allowed three runs and three hits in just over three innings. The rookie had six walks and three strikeouts, but only threw first-pitch strikes to six of the 20 batters he faced, including Ramirez.

Gil entered Tuesday's game with a record of 12-6 and a 3.39 ERA in 24 starts. He has had some issues with control and has given up 66 walks in 124 2/3 innings after missing most of the last two seasons due to Tommy John surgery.
