Mets promote infielder Luisangel Acuna to major league roster
In an effort to bolster their roster for a potential playoff push, the New York Mets are set to promote Luisangel Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse, according to multiple reports on Saturday.
Acuna, the younger sibling of Atlanta Braves standout Ronald Acuna Jr., has seen action at second base, shortstop, and center field during his time with Syracuse. So far, he has recorded a .258 batting average, seven home runs, 50 RBIs, and 40 stolen bases.
The Mets acquired the 22-year-old Acuna in a trade on July 30, 2023, when they sent pitcher Max Scherzer and cash to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Acuna.
During Friday night's 11-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor experienced tightness in his back and was forced to leave the game early. He is currently listed as day-to-day. Meanwhile, second baseman Jeff McNeil will miss the remainder of the regular season due to a broken wrist.
