"Jackson Holliday, Orioles' highly-rated rookie, smashes grand slam upon promotion"

"Triple-A calls up Orioles' highly-rated player Jackson Holliday"

The Baltimore Orioles summoned their top prospect, Jackson Holliday, from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday morning.

Holliday, who was the first overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, is making his second appearance in the majors. His first stint did not go well, as the son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holiday struggled with a 2-for-34 record and 18 strikeouts in 10 games in April.

The 20-year-old Holliday has had a solid season at Norfolk, batting .271 with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs in 73 games.

Holliday was brought up to take the place of fellow infield prospect Connor Norby, who was traded to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday along with outfielder Kyle Stowers in exchange for left-handed starter Trevor Rogers.

In addition to Holliday's call-up, the Orioles also activated left-hander Gregory Soto, who was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Catcher Blake Hunt and utilityman Terrin Vavra were optioned to Norfolk to make room for Soto.

Soto, 29, had a 4.08 ERA in 43 relief appearances for the Phillies this season. The two-time All-Star has a career record of 13-28 with a 4.23 ERA and 55 saves in six seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2019-2022) and Phillies (2023-2024).
