"Alyssa Nakken, initial female mentor, leaves Giants to join Guardians"

Alyssa Nakken, the initial full-time female trainer in major league history, is leaving the San Francisco Giants for a player development position with the Cleveland Guardians.

The Guardians have not officially announced her hiring or disclosed her responsibilities.

Nakken, 34, served as a coach for the Giants for the past five seasons. She made history on April 12, 2022 when she took over as first-base coach after Antoan Richardson was ejected against the San Diego Padres.

\"We express our gratitude to Alyssa Nakken for her remarkable contributions to the San Francisco Giants and for paving the way for women in sports,\" the Giants stated on Friday. \"Her guidance, commitment, and love for the game have motivated countless individuals, and her influence has truly transformed the Giants organization and the baseball community. As she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career, we have no doubt that she will continue to inspire and achieve great things. We wish her and her family all the best.\"

Nakken interviewed for the Giants' managerial position following the 2023 season after Gabe Kapler was terminated. Bob Melvin ultimately landed the job.

Nakken joined the Giants in 2014 as an intern in baseball operations after a successful softball career at Sacramento State. She later transitioned into a front office role before joining Kapler's staff.
