Elvis Andrus will declare his retirement from the sport of baseball on Friday and will do so as a member of the Texas Rangers, the team he played for during 12 of his 15 seasons in the major leagues.

On Wednesday, Texas officially announced that Andrus will be joined by his former teammate and current special assistant, Rangers Hall of Famer Michael Young, as well as Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington, who was Andrus' manager during his first six seasons.

Last week, Andrus celebrated his 36th birthday.

After being released by the Arizona Diamondbacks in March, Andrus did not sign with a team for this season.

Throughout his 15-year career, Andrus has been selected to the All-Star team twice and has accumulated 2,091 hits. While he primarily played as a shortstop, he did spend 63 games (with 60 starts) at second base in 2023 while playing for the Chicago White Sox.

Andrus' career comes to a close with a .269 batting average, 102 home runs, and 775 runs batted in over 2,059 games with the Rangers (2009-2020), Oakland Athletics (2021-2022), and White Sox (2022-2023). He also recorded 347 stolen bases.

Washington and the Angels are currently in Texas for a four-game series this weekend.
