Dominant Seraphs Acquire Left-Handed Pitcher Yusei Kikuchi on $63 Million Deal
Southpaw Yusei Kikuchi has reportedly reached a three-year agreement worth $63 million with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, according to multiple sources.
The 33-year-old pitcher, who split last season between the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros, started 32 games and ended with a 9-10 record.
Kikuchi was acquired by the Astros before the trade deadline and finished the season with an impressive 2.70 ERA in 10 starts, striking out 76 batters and walking only 14. He has a total of 206 strikeouts in 175 2/3 innings.
The Angels, who suffered 99 losses last season, have been busy rebuilding their roster through free agency. They have signed veteran players such as right-hander Kyle Hendricks (from the Cubs), catcher Travis d'Arnaud (from the Braves), and infielder Kevin Newman (from the Diamondbacks), as well as acquiring slugger Jorge Soler and infielder Scott Kingery through trades.
Kikuchi has also made 32 starts in both the 2023 and 2019 seasons, prior to joining the Angels in 2024.
The Seattle Mariners signed Kikuchi in 2019, where he struggled with a record of 8-15 and an ERA over 5.00 in his first two seasons.
After a 7-9 season in 2021, Kikuchi moved to the Blue Jays in 2022 and spent two and a half seasons with the team. In his MLB career, he has a record of 41-47 with a 4.57 ERA in 166 games, including 154 starts.
