The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Freddie Freeman from the restricted list on Monday after the star first baseman missed eight games to be with his ailing son.

Freeman departed from the team prior to their July 26-28 away series against the Houston Astros due to his 3-year-old son, Maximus, falling ill and requiring hospitalization. On July 27, Freeman was placed on the family emergency list and was later moved to the restricted list on Saturday.

According to a social media post by Freeman and his wife, Chelsea, Maximus Freeman was released from intensive care on Sunday after spending eight days there due to Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.

Freeman is expected to return to the lineup for the Dodgers' game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.

In order to make room for Freeman on the roster, the Los Angeles Dodgers designated infielder Cavan Biggio for assignment.

Biggio, who was acquired in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays on June 12, had a batting average of .192 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 30 games for the Dodgers. This brings his season stats to a .197 batting average with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 74 games.
