The Chicago Cubs have placed 31-year-old right-hander Jorge Lopez on the 15-day injured list due to a right groin strain.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs have brought up right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter from Triple-A Iowa.

Lopez, who was signed by the Cubs in June after being released from the New York Mets, has a 3.00 ERA with four saves in 50 relief appearances this season. He has also appeared in 22 games for the Cubs.

In his last outing on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Lopez gave up four runs on four hits in one inning of work, resulting in his first blown save of the season. He allowed a three-run home run to Bryan Reynolds and a go-ahead blast to Andrew McCutchen.

Wingenter, who is 30 years old, previously pitched in two games for the Boston Red Sox this season, giving up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings. He was selected off waivers by the Cubs on August 2 and is set to make his debut with the team.
