'Braves demote RHP AJ Smith-Shawver to Triple-A'

The Atlanta Braves sent down right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.

Smith-Shawver, 22, has a record of 0-2 and an ERA of 4.61 in his first three starts with the Atlanta team.

On Saturday, he had his strongest performance of the season, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out seven in five innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Braves came back in the ninth inning to win 5-4.

In a corresponding move, the Braves called up 30-year-old right-handed reliever Michael Petersen from Gwinnett. Petersen has a career record of 3-1 and an ERA of 5.95 in 16 appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins in 2024.
