Astros' Wild-Card Roster Against Tigers Excludes Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander, a pitcher who has won the Cy Young Award three times, was not included in the Houston Astros' lineup for their American League wild-card series against the Detroit Tigers who are visiting.
The first game of the series will take place on Tuesday afternoon, with Houston's Framber Valdez (15-7, 2.91 ERA) facing off against Detroit's Tarik Skubal (18-4, 2.39) in a matchup between two left-handed pitchers.
At 41 years old, Verlander ended this season with a 5-6 record and a 5.48 ERA, after winning two games and getting a no-decision in his last three starts.
In his previous five starts, he struggled greatly, going 0-4 and only recording 14 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings. He also missed 54 games this season due to discomfort in his neck.
