Steelers' Cameron Heyward: Week 1 availability uncertain
Heyward said Friday he's "preparing" to play Sunday against the Jets, though he wouldn't commit to being on the field amid a lingering contract dispute, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Heyward's availability for Sunday's season opener may hinge on a reworked contract being worked out between him and the Steelers. The veteran pass rusher has been participating in practice, so he's unlikely to face a ramp-up period if and when Heyward takes the field. Heyward had 8.0 sacks and 11 passes defensed in the 2024 regular season.

Steelers' Nick Herbig: Could play Sunday
Herbig (hamstring) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Jets, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
The third-year linebacker from Wisconsin was limited all week in practice due to a hamstring injury sustained in mid-August. Herbig has been productive throughout his two years in Pittsburgh, totaling 49 total tackles, including 8.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles across 30 regular-season contests. If he's unable to go in Week 1, Jack Sawyer will likely play as the Steelers' top rotational outside linebacker.

Steelers' Skylar Thompson: Questionable due to hamstring
Thompson (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Thompson popped up on Friday's injury report with a hamstring injury that limited his practice participation Friday. Even if he gains clearance to play, Thompson isn't expected to be anything more than the emergency third quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph.
